In Gir we tried to sensitize the local communities in order to make them realize that it was vital for Gir’s economy and the communities around to ensure the Lion’s survival. The tourism generated by the forest was a source of income for the local communities around Gir. We made a film and screened it extensively and tried to explain to the communities how this source of income would fast diminish with the decrease in population of the lions in the forest and so it was very important for the communities to live in harmony with their neighbouring forest and its occupants.
