“A few days ago, in my father’s native village, I was sitting with Rajesh Tripathi on the edge of the River Saryu, in Barhalganj. I was there for a solemn occasion but the sudden appearance of a school of dolphins, several adults and some juveniles, diverted my attention. For me it was an omen, nature’s call from the wilds. I spoke to Rajesh Tripathi and the need for conservation of this critically endangered specie was born.
The very next day after I spoke to some local people in that village including a 10-year-old boy. The next day at 5:30 a.m. this boy informed Rajesh about a dolphin caught in a fisherman’s net… this timely action helped Rajesh in saving the life of a Gangetic dolphin. The boy too helped by raising an alarm because he was now aware and sensitive towards the plight of the dolphin. This shows that there is a need for generating awareness amongst people. Once that is accomplished it becomes reasonably simpler to work towards the protection of the related life forms. |
