The horseshoe crab is the oldest living fossil that exists today and dates back to 562 million years back. This specie that has remained unchanged for millions of years could rewrite modern medical history. Research on the horseshoe crab has revealed that it's blood holds the cure for osteoporosis, cancer and can even neutralize the HIV and tuberculosis infected cells.
Countries like Taiwan, Malaysia and USA have invested huge amounts of intellect and resources in the research of the horseshoe crab. If we do not do the same we will soon lose all rights to our own medical and scientific intellectual property.
At a crucial point in time now, when the horseshoe crab is being smuggled and the government research in India has been stopped, there is an urgent need to revive the fight, for protecting the little known horseshoe crab and its habitat. To do so, an awareness generation campaign among the fishermen is ongoing and interest amongst the media is regularly generated.
